The Campus Police Department at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center recognized seven police officers and two new staff members during a swearing in ceremony Tuesday held in the Student-Alumni Center.
“I am honored and excited each time I am able to have a young man or woman to raise their right hand and I give them their Oath of Office,” said Campus Police Chief Anthony Berryhill. “A good sign of a department moving forward in the right direction is to see growth and advancement opportunities.”
Officers promoted include:
Joanne Morrow, promoted to the rank of Captain
Celia Tisby, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
Harvey Anthony, promoted to the rank of Sergeant
New officers took an oath to protect and serve, officially receiving their badges.
Those officers include:
Mark McClain, Lieutenant, who brings 30 years of experience from the Memphis Police Department (MPD)
Police Officer Sammie Whitney, who brings 28 years of experience and retired from the MPD
Police Officer Andre Nelson, who bring 26 years of experience from the MPD
Police Officer James Griffith, who brings 22 years of experience from the Germantown Police Department
In addition, two staff members were recognized at the ceremony. Parking Services Manager Jacelyn Bell and Police Dispatcher Shona Harris.
“This diverse group of men and women acknowledged here today is confirmation that the UTHSC Police Department is growing and going in the right direction,” Chief Berryhill said. “These men and women, whether they are wearing the badge, in Parking Services, or Police Dispatch, have willingly committed to join in providing exceptional services to the UTHSC community. I am honored to have each of them.”
