On April 22, Michelle Nixon received the IMHOTEP Award during the Student Government Association Executive Council (SGAEC) banquet at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. SGAEC President Ben Maddox presented the award, which acknowledges outstanding service to UTHSC students.
Andrew Kang, professor in the Division of Connective Tissue Diseases in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has received a $1.65 million grant to study rheumatoid arthritis.
Robert G. Instead of abandoning hope, University of Tennessee molecular biologist Maria Gomes-Solecki decided to apply the vaccine to another carrier: mice. Ticks that sucked the blood of vaccinated mice would also ingest antibodies the mice had produced, which would kill any bacteria the ticks carried, preventing them from transmitting the disease.
