The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) announces the appointment of Russell O. Gilpatrick, DDS as dean of the university’s College of Dentistry effective July 1.
Memphis, Tennessee (June 18, 2003) — The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) announces the appointment of Russell O. Gilpatrick, DDS as dean of the university”s College of Dentistry effective July 1. Dr. Gilpatrick previously served as the College of Dentistry”s executive associate dean for academic affairs.
UTHSC Interim Chancellor, Jim Gibb Johnson, MD, comments, “We are pleased that Dr. Gilpatrick will be serving the university in this role. He has been with UT for 15 years and is quite knowledgeable of everything that goes on within the College of Dentistry, as well as its goals and vision for the future.”
With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Gilpatrick”s career is complemented by eight years in private dental practice. He earned a bachelor”s degree from Chico State University and his doctor of dentistry degree from University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.
Professionally, he is affiliated with the Commission on Dental Accreditation, the American and International Colleges of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Dental Education Association, the American and International Associations for Dental Research, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, Richard Doggett Dean and Marguerite Taylor Dean Odontological Society, Imhotep Society, and the Tennessee and American Dental Associations. Also, he currently serves as treasurer of the Memphis Dental Society, as well as a consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation and the Veterans” Administration Hospital in Memphis.
Earlier this year, Dr. Gilpatrick was presented a fellowship award for distinguished service by the Tennessee Dental Association. He has been widely recognized by UTHSC students, having been awarded 12 student and alumni awards during his 15-year tenure at the university.
Dr. Gilpatrick has also been active in dental research, having conducted a number of laboratory and clinical research studies at the university.
