Nathan Cope, fourth year student pharmacist, was awarded the Tennessee Society of Student Pharmacists (TSSP) Allegiance Award at the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA) MidYear Meeting in February. This award is given annually to a student showing dedication, dependability and commitment, along with spirit and loyalty to TSSP.
Since entering pharmacy school in 2010, Nathan has played an active role in TPA-TSSP. He has attended three TSSP Annual meetings, three TPA MidYear meetings, and two TPA Annual meetings. From 2010 to 2012, Nathan was elected to serve two terms as a TPA-TSSP UTCOP Knoxville Campus Delegate. This past year, Nathan served as the TPA-TSSP UTCOP Knoxville Campus Member-at-Large, in addition to being a member of the TPA-TSSP Executive Council and Political Committee. During his time with TSSP, Nathan originated and authored TPA Resolution 13.01, Encouraging Local Pharmacy District Relationships with Student Pharmacists. This resolution passed the TPA House of Delegates on February 26, 2013. Former TSSP delegate Rhett Byrne from Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy worked with Nathan on several TSSP projects and remarked that “Nathan was an integral part of bringing TSSP’s first resolution to the TPA House of Delegates. His passion, work ethic, and advocacy for the profession are all very admirable. The soon to be Dr. Nathan Cope is an excellent person to work with and I expect to see great things from him in the future.”
Nathan grew up in Middle Tennessee near Shelbyville and has lived in Tennessee all of his life. In May, however, he will graduate and move to Greensboro, NC where he will begin a PGY1 residency at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Nathan is excited about this opportunity to further develop his clinical skills and explore future career possibilities. It is certainly evident that Nathan’s dedication to the advancement of pharmacy will be sure to follow him wherever he goes.
